Building High-Performance Teams Through the Explorer’s Mindset
James Castrission, also known as Cas, is one of Australia's most respected adventurers and a highly sought-after speaker on leadership, teamwork, and the power of an explorer’s mindset. Recognised as one of Australia’s 50 Greatest Explorers and holder of two Guinness World Records, Cas inspires audiences around the world with the lessons he's learned from some of the most extreme environments on Earth.
Cas’ adventures are the stuff of legend. In 2008, he and his expedition partner Justin "Jonesy" Jones became the first people to kayak unsupported across the Tasman Sea, an epic 62-day, 3318km journey from Australia to New Zealand. Then in 2012, the duo completed the longest unsupported polar expedition of all time: skiing 2275km from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back. These feats earned them global recognition, a Guinness World Record, and the Australian Geographic Society’s Spirit of Adventure award.
Before launching into the world of exploration, Cas spent five years as a management consultant at Deloitte. Today, he fuses that corporate insight with his expedition experience to deliver transformational learning experiences for organisations. Since founding MyAdventure Group in 2013, Cas has reached over 920,000 people across 40 countries through his keynotes, immersive offsites, and simulation-based programs.
Cas is not only a world-class keynote speaker, he’s a facilitator of deep, behavioural change. He works closely with clients to design multi-day, hands-on development experiences, grounded in the realities of business and backed by a modular framework of 12 adaptable learning components. From C-suite retreats to all-staff simulations like ‘Uncharted Ice’ and ‘Uncharted Waters’, his programs challenge teams to navigate uncertainty, build trust, and thrive under pressure.
Cas is also the bestselling author of ‘Crossing the Ditch’ and ‘Extreme South’, which chronicle his record-breaking expeditions and the mindset shifts required to push beyond perceived limits.
Whether he’s guiding a leadership team through an immersive offsite or captivating a conference audience with stories from the edge of human endurance, James Castrission brings energy, clarity, and proven strategies to help people and organisations go further, together.
