From television to the big screen, musical theatre to opera, cabaret to the stage, there are few entertainment mediums that multi-award winning Rhonda Burchmore has not embraced with her wide ranging talents.
She is a major star in Musical Theatre appearing in productions such as Sugar Babies (Australia and West End) and Stop the World I Want to Get Off with Anthony Newley (London’s West End). She has starred in Song And Dance,They’re Playing Our Song, Lend Me a Tenor, Iolanthe, Die Fledermaus, An Evening With Sondheim, and the title role of Annie in Annie Get Your Gun.
David Atkins featured Rhonda in his 1987 hit Dancin’ Man, and then went on to write the lead role of April - specifically for her in his tap musical, Hot Shoe Shuffle which she performed nationally and in London’s West End. She has also starred in Aladdin, Cinderella, Guys & Dolls, Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods and the 2000 and 2008 production by The Production Company of Mame. She has played lead roles in Urinetown, Tomfoolery, RESPECT The Musical Journey of Women and will forever be remembered for her Green Room nominated role of Tanya in Mamma Mia. More recently Rhonda was cast as Boyka in the Glynn Nicholas and QPAC production of Eurobeat. In January 2010 Rhonda starred as The Drowsy Chaperone in the MTC production of The Drowsy Chaperone with Geoffrey Rush and a stellar cast, and from April to July this year Rhonda performed the role of Celia in the critically acclaimed Calendar Girls.
Earlier this year Rhonda starred in her first feature film The Wedding Party, opposite Steve Bisley. She has released 5 albums, is a popular television guest on several shows – who could ever forget her appearances on Hey Hey its Saturday! Rhonda has performed for President Clinton, sung the National Anthem at the Melbourne Cup and the Australian Grand Prix, was the entertainment ambassador for the 2004 Greek Paralympics and in October last year her debut biographical book, Legs 11 was published.
Rhonda is currently touring her critically acclaimed new show Cry Me a River – The world of Julie London nationally and internationally, along with the stage version of her biography LEGS 11.
Rhonda is much sought-after public speaker and performer in the corporate arena and is a proud ambassador to many charities.
In 2012 Rhonda was awarded Female Entertainer of the Year.
