Fan favourite in the 2019 season of ‘MasterChef Australia’, Derek Lau was known for pushing the boundaries in the kitchen. From his dumplings, to his fried chicken, Derek’s impressive dishes saw him score highly from the judges and audiences alike.
The youngest of four, Derek was in the kitchen with his mum from a young age. Passing all of her cooking knowledge onto Derek, his mum ensured he had the basic cooking essentials he needed to know. From there, Derek’s love for food turned into a passion.
Derek holds a double Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Commerce and works as a Chartered Accountant and an Investor Relations Analyst. However, his love for cooking calls him back into the kitchen as he aims to explore further opportunities within the food space.
Drawing his inspiration from some of the top culinary experts, including Katherine Sabbath, Adriano Zumbo, Kate Reid and Gordon Ramsay, Derek aims to open his own restaurant/café in Perth.
