Wayne Bennett

One of the greatest Rugby League coaches, with an abundance of first-hand experience and motivational stories to tell

Wayne Bennett is one of the most accomplished and respected figures in rugby league, renowned for his remarkable coaching career spanning more than four decades. A seven-time NRL Premiership-winning coach, Bennett is celebrated not only for his record-breaking success on the field, but also for his exceptional leadership, ability to build high-performing teams, and talent for inspiring individuals to achieve their potential.

Beginning his coaching career in Ipswich in 1976, Bennett quickly established himself as one of the game's brightest coaching minds. He went on to coach the Canberra Raiders to their first Grand Final appearance before becoming the inaugural coach of the Brisbane Broncos in 1988. During his first 21 seasons with the Broncos, he guided the club to six NRL Premierships and helped establish one of the most successful sporting organisations in Australia.

Bennett has enjoyed success wherever he has coached. In 2010, he led the St George Illawarra Dragons to their first NRL Premiership, ending the club's 31-year premiership drought. He later coached the Newcastle Knights, returned to the Broncos, and then led the South Sydney Rabbitohs from 2019 to 2021, taking the club to the 2021 NRL Grand Final.

In 2023, Bennett became the inaugural head coach of the NRL's newest franchise, the Dolphins, guiding the expansion club through its first two seasons and establishing a competitive culture from day one. In 2025, he returned to the South Sydney Rabbitohs as Head Coach, continuing a career that has redefined longevity and excellence in professional sport.

Throughout his career, Bennett has also enjoyed outstanding success at representative level. He coached Queensland during one of the state's most dominant State of Origin eras and led Australia to multiple international victories. In 1998, he became the first coach to simultaneously hold premiership-winning honours at club, State of Origin and international level.

Widely regarded as one of rugby league's greatest coaches, Bennett was inducted into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Australian sport. His influence extends well beyond football, with leaders across business, government and elite sport seeking his insights into leadership, resilience, culture and sustained high performance.

As a keynote speaker, Wayne Bennett shares powerful lessons drawn from decades of leading elite athletes and teams through success, adversity and change. His presentations combine practical leadership principles with engaging personal stories, offering audiences valuable insights into building trust, developing resilient cultures, managing pressure and bringing out the best in people.

Wayne is also the author of League's A Lot Like Life, Don't Die with the Music in You (co-authored with Steve Crawley), and The Man in the Mirror, which explore the philosophies and experiences that have shaped one of Australia's most enduring and influential sporting careers.
