Scott Brodie

Helping humans heal through horses

Scott Brodie is a master horseman, coach and internationally acclaimed thoroughbred retrainer.

Through his unique equine-assisted program, he brings together traumatised ex-racehorses and military veterans - both trained to perform at the highest level, and both often retired with mental health issues and at risk of death. In partnership, they rebuild trust, confidence and belief in their potential.

This extraordinary work is featured in the upcoming documentary, The Healing (finalist at the 2021 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival).

As a classically trained rider who has been coached by world-class instructors, Scott has schooled horses from break-in to Grand Prix dressage. He is also an accomplished practitioner of the art of natural horsemanship. Drawing on universal principles from both styles, Scott gets the best from both horses and people.

Scott has had over 20 years’ involvement with the NSW Mounted Police as horse trainer, instructor and consultant. As a serving Mounted Police Officer, Scott was selected to represent Australia in the Royal Pageant of the Horse at Windsor Castle. He received numerous honours including the prestigious Silver Spurs Award and a Bravery Citation for mounted operations during a severe incident of civil unrest. Notably, Scott also established and led Racing NSW’s thoroughbred retraining program, where he oversaw the retraining of hundreds of ex-racehorses.

Today, Scott is recognised as a leader in the equestrian field. He is author of ‘Horses from Courses: Retraining Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses’ and has provided expert commentary to media including Channel 10’s The Project, Sydney Morning Herald and Sky Racing. He has presented at major equestrian events such as Equitana, and regularly holds clinics both locally and abroad.

Engaging and passionate, Scott is a rare spirit who inspires hope, wins hearts and changes minds.
