Indira Naidoo

With an award-winning career spanning three decades, Indira has demonstrated her talent for journalism as a presenter for some of Australia’s most distinguished news and current affairs programs.

Indira is passionate about exploring how global environmental issues play in conflict, poverty, food security and homelessness. She is best recognised for her work on programs like ABC’s ‘Late Edition’ nightly news, SBS TV’s ‘World News Tonight’, and ABC Radio’s ‘Weekend Nightlife’ program.

She has also been a special guest presenter for ABC TV’s ‘Gardening Australia’ in 2018, a host for SBS’ ‘Filthy Rich and Homeless’, and a co-host on the 2CH breakfast radio program ‘Indira & Trevor’.

Indira led the Australian media industry as the media manager for consumer advocacy group CHOICE, where she formed the beloved and now yearly SHONKY awards.

Outside of her presenting work, Indira published her best-selling book ‘The Edible Balcony’ in 2011, where she discusses growing food in small spaces. Her second book in 2015, ‘The Edible City’, explores Sydney's homeless crisis centre Wayside Chapel, as well as the impact of community gardening.

Indira contributed her leading expertise as a Geneva-based sustainability consultant with the United Nations’ International Trade Centre in 2008. She has also been supporting Sydney’s homeless community as an ambassador for the Wayside Chapel, where she established the award-winning rooftop vegetable garden. She continues to conduct garden and cooking classes for their homeless visitors.

Discovering a love for sustainability and gardening, Indira designed two award-winning gardens for the Australian Garden Show Sydney, and continues to help community groups build their own food gardens through her garden company.
