The Lovable Comedian Taking Australia by Storm
Luke McGregor is one of Australia’s most beloved comedians, known for his unmistakable charm, razor-sharp wit, and delightfully awkward honesty. Whether he’s dissecting economics on The Weekly, stumbling through dating on ‘Luke Warm Sex’, or co-creating award-winning TV comedy, Luke brings brains, heart, and hilarity to everything he does.
Hailing from Hobart, Tasmania, Luke’s path to comedy was anything but conventional. After spending seven years at the University of Tasmania studying everything from law to medicine (he graduated with a BA and Economics), and working jobs at Centrelink and Medicare, he stumbled into stand-up at age 25, when a no-show at an open mic night gave him five unexpected minutes on stage. He hasn’t looked back since.
Luke burst onto the national scene as a RAW Comedy finalist in 2008, and won Best Newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2013 for his debut solo show ‘My Soulmate Is Out of My League’. He later earned the same accolade at the Sydney Comedy Festival. His live shows, including ‘I Worry That I Worry Too Much’ and ‘Almost Fixed It’, have sold out across Australia and the UK. Flash forward to 2023 and Luke’s hosting the Oxfam Gala for MICF/ABC and touring a brand new hour of stand-up across Australia in 2025.
On screen, Luke has become a regular favourite with appearances on Utopia, It’s A Date, The Project, Spicks and Specks, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont-Spelling Bee, and Thank God You’re Here. His segment “Lukenomics” on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering cleverly brings together comedy and economic insight.
In 2016, Luke co-created and co-starred in the critically acclaimed ABC series Rosehaven with long-time friend and collaborator Celia Pacquola. The show earned Luke the Logie Award for Most Popular Actor in 2019 and an AWGIE Award for Best Comedy Script.
He also fronted the heartfelt documentary series Luke Warm Sex, exploring sexuality and body image with signature honesty and humour. Most recently, he competed in the first season of Taskmaster Australia, brought his mum Julie along for The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition, and appeared as guest announcer on Sam Pang Tonight.
With a unique blend of intelligence, vulnerability, and comedic timing, Luke McGregor continues to delight audiences across stage and screen. Whether he's diving into economics or diving headfirst into the unknown, he does it with warmth, wit, and a unmistakable comedic spark.
