Tom Green

Tom was originally introduced to Kayaking via surf lifesaving as a 10yr old. Living on the Gold Coast, his mum was a surf lifesaver and similarly him and his siblings got involved in Nippers from a young age.

From there Tom and his siblings decided to start Kayaking to help improve their surf lifesaving ski discipline which begun by simply paddling with friends in the creek and joining the Currumbin Creek Canoe Club.

With his brother and sister in 2012, Tom competed at the Outrigging World Championships. After casually playing around in the kayak and surf lifesaving racing and training, he was encouraged to take flatwater paddling seriously.

Within weeks, Tom was competing at the Australian Canoe Sprint Championship where he won 11 medals in his division, including three gold.

At 16 Tom made his first Australian team in 2015 for the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Poland and won a silver medal in the K1 500m and bronze in the K1 1000m. In 2017, Tom returned to open water competition and won the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships and was named Gold Coast Junior Athlete of the year.

With the 2020 Olympic Games in focus, Tom jumped back into the kayak and won gold in the K2 1000m at the 2018 Under 23 World Championships.

In 2019 Tom was a part of the Paddle Australia Team of the Year and made the Australian World Championship Team. He made his mark with an incredible Under-23 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, winning gold and becoming a duel world champion in the K11000 and K4 500.

By 2021 at 20 years old, Tom was selected in both K1 events and secured his spot on the Tokyo Olympic team. At the Tokyo Olympic Games, Tom won gold in the K2 1000m and became an Olympic Champion with a time of 3:15.28. This was the first time Australia has won an Olympic gold in the event
