Peter is passionate about enabling people to be extraordinary. Inspired by The Golden Circle, Peter teaches leaders and organizations how to harness the power of WHY to do extraordinary things. He illustrates his insights by drawing on examples from his previous flying, military and industry career to explain principles that can be applied in any business.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with Simon Sinek since 2011, Peter is an Igniter and Implementation Specialist on the Start With Why team, helping organizations harness the power of WHY to create extraordinary cultures and sustainable high performance. Peter has taken his years of practical experience and co-authored with Simon Sinek and David Mead, Find Your Why: A Practical Guide for Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team , a step-by-step guide on how to discover your WHY, published September 2017.
Peter is globally recognized as the “HOW” guy to Simon’s “WHY”. A trained leadership consultant and executive coach, Peter's commercial and industry experience has been at the most senior levels in sectors including oil & gas, construction, mining, pharmaceuticals, banking, television, film, media, manufacturing and services – across 80 countries.
Peter served as a former Royal Air Force senior officer, has been a Force Commander during combat flying operations and has seen service across the world. His career has spanned from a professional pilot, to leading an aviation training and standards organization, teaching postgraduates at the UK’s Defence College, to flying the British Prime Minister around the world. Peter has led multibillion dollar international procurement projects and served as a crisis manager and former international negotiator for the UK Government.
How Great Teams and Organisations Pull Together
Some organizations have cultures where their people are able to trust each other so deeply that they would literally put their lives on the line for each other. Other cultures, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why? Understand the reason simply knowing or believing the WHY is not enough. Once people are united by a common cause, there must be a strong culture that keeps them together. The result is deeply loyal colleagues who will stop at nothing to advance their vision and their organizations interests. The result is a positive impact for everyone involved.
Leaders Eat Last
Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, and then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders are creating environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things. Great leaders sacrifice their own comfort, even their own survival, for the good of those in their care. This principle has been true since the earliest tribes of hunters and gatherers. It is not a management theory; it is biology. When we create an environment where people feel like they belong and operate in a Circle of Safety the result is trust and collaboration, allowing people to spend their time and energy working together toward a higher cause that inspires them, rather than spending their time and energy protecting themselves from each other.

Any person or organization can explain what they do, some can explain how they are different or better, but very few can clearly articulate why. The WHY is not about money or profit, those are results. The WHY is the thing that inspires us and inspires those around us.
