Timothy Buxton

For the last 20 years, Timothy has lived and worked in various locations throughout The Middle East, Australia, and the United States, providing organisational leadership, relief, training and community development in more than 30 countries. He co-founded The Refuge Initiative in 2014, whilst serving as Iraq Country Director for World Orphans. To this day The Refuge Initiative continues to fulfil its mission of providing homes and education for displaced families, spearheaded by local indigenous leadership.

In 2017, he returned to Australia and founded You Belong, an international social impact organisation with headquarters in Australia & the United States. He currently serves as Board Chair and Founding CEO, guiding You Belong’s mission to lead the way in welcoming and empowering refugee Waymakers to belong and thrive within every community they serve.

Timothy also understands the crucial role that business plays in bringing about the positive change our world desperately needs. His cross-cultural lived-experience, love for travel, and belief in the power of social enterprise, inspired him to launch his own social impact business — Just Travel. As a purpose-driven company, Just Travel curates culturally immersive group adventures with a mission to unite our wondrous world of rich and diverse cultures, one trip at a time.

Timothy is a dynamic communicator, captivating audiences with his authentic and adventurous energy, inspiring and equipping leaders to pursue a more courageous and purpose-filled life.

From the stage to the podcast studio, his message is contagious: We are all Waymakers, and together we can create a world where everyone belongs. Timothy is also a podcast producer and host of Justice Matters, Waymakers Today and Who Is My Neighbour? He has a post graduate degree in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies at Queensland University of Technology.
