Dilruk Jayasinha

One of Australia’s Most-In Demand Comedians and Headliners

Originally from Sri Lanka, a nineteen-year-old Dilruk moved to Melbourne on his own to attend university. After graduating with a degree in accounting, he was on his way towards making his parents proud by making good use of his degree at one of the “Big Four” accounting firms.

However, in 2009, he was unceremoniously fired, and both Dilruk and his managers noted his lack of interest in being a full-time accountant.

Following his sacking, Dilruk performed for his first gig in 2010 at an open mic night. He hasn’t looked back since.

Since then, he has become a regular on the Australian comedy circuit and is one of Australia’s most sought-after headliners on the comedy scene. He has become known for his positive, upbeat brand of stand-up and has been invited to perform all over the country as well as internationally in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Singapore. He has performed at six Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, at the Sydney Opera House for the Just for Laughs Festival and the iconic Lower Town Hall where he once watched his comedy heroes.

In 2016, Dilruk made his Australian Television debut on Network Ten’s smash hit show, “Have You Been Paying Attention?”. Since then, he has recorded stand-up specials for ABC and Amazon Prime. He has also featured in Amazon’s “LOL: Last One Laughing” alongside fellow Australian comedy icon, Rebel Wilson.

In 2017, he performed his sold-out, smash hit show, “The Art of The Dil”, at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. In this same year, Dilruk made his acting debut on ABC TV’s award-winning comedy series, “Utopia”, and starred as a team captain on Network Ten’s “CRAM” alongside fellow team captain Virginia Gay and host Peter Helliar.

During the 2018 Logie Awards, Dilruk received the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, one of the highest accolades in Australian entertainment.

In 2019, Dilruk returned in the fourth season of “Utopia”, performed at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival as well as returned to Edinburgh for his second year with his new show, “Cheat Day(s)”.

He recently competed in Celebrity MasterChef where he won over the hearts of viewers and made it all the way through to the semi-finals, despite having only taught himself to cook while being stuck at home during 2020.

In addition to local and international stages, Dilruk is also a regular at corporate functions and has made appearances for companies such as the Hawthorn Football Club, Pitcher Partners, Emerge Festival for Multicultural Arts Victoria and The Moree NSW Multicultural Festival.
