He had a long career, including banking, law, property development, real estate, mortgage broking, and financial advice.
Noel's business career has spanned banking, law, property and financial services. In 1974 he became Development Manager of First City Property Company Limited, the pioneering developer of unit projects on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. He later joined Beneficial Finance Corporation as Queensland manager of its joint venture developments before establishing his own real estate and building company in 1976.
Within a decade, he had built the leading real estate business in the Logan City area, with four offices and a team of 20 salespeople. The company was eventually acquired by Ray White.
He then founded Whittaker Macnaught, a financial planning firm that grew into one of Australia's leading financial advisory companies, with more than $2 billion under management. He relinquished all interests in the business in 2007.
In 2011 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the community in raising awareness of personal finance.
In 2016 he accepted a position as independent director of VGI Global Ltd which listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 28 September 2017.
He is a member of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission Regional Liaison committee, and is an Executive in Residence with the Faculty of Business at the Queensland University of Technology. In December 2023 he was given an Honary Doctorate in the Faculty Of Business at QUT.
