Catriona Rowntree

Australia’s Most Travelled Woman and Host of Getaway

Catriona is one of the longest-running presenters for a single program for hosting Australia’s favourite travel program, Getaway, for over two decades and has earned herself the title of “Australia’s Most Travelled Woman”.

Catriona’s television career began in 1990 after completing a Diploma of Journalism at Macleay College and later followed it up with stints researching at Business Review Weekly and various Sydney newsrooms. In 1991, she moved to community radio as a newsreader and music and lifestyle program host on FM 915 (Rhythm and Jazz). Eventually, Catriona landed a gig on Triple J’s Weekend Request Show, for which she presented until 1996.

In 1992, Catriona was hired as a researcher for Nine Network’s “Wonder World!” and graduated to the position of reporter the following year. She became the host of the show in 1994 and the host of Nine Network’s live entertainment show, “What’s Up Doc?” where she later became the show’s writer and producer.

With a few years of television and radio experience under her belt, Catriona was offered the golden opportunity to roam the globe for Getaway in 1996. Since then, she has travelled around the world, discovering and sharing the world’s most relaxing, inspiring, and out-of-the-ordinary holiday destinations.

Catriona has since then become a household name for her Getaway reports from around the globe and her appearances in Nine’s special telecasts and live broadcasts. She has worked on numerous other programs, including the Logies Red Carpet Arrivals, The Chopping Block, Australia’s Funniest Home Videos, National IQ Test and most recently, Country House Hunters.

In 2006, Catriona celebrated her ten years on Getaway by publishing her book, “Catriona’s Australia: 100 of My Favourite Aussie Locations”. Her second book, “A Grandmother’s Wisdom”, was released in 2013 and in 2019, she published “The Best of World Cruising”.

In addition to her TV  roles, Catriona is incredibly passionate about community work and advocating for many charities and foundations, including the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. She has used her platform to support many organisations and is the Patron of the Arnotts Foundation and Ambassador for OCRF and Mission Australia. In 2010, Catriona became an Australian Landcare Ambassador. In 2012, she was the Ambassador for Year of the Farmer as well as the Brand Ambassador for Pharmacare’s EASEaCOLD range.

In 2008, Catriona married Victorian farmer James Pettit. Based in rural Victoria, they live with their two boys. In 2013, Catriona partnered with Target to create a children’s range of clothing inspired by her passion for the Australian Wool Industry and her own life in the country.

As a self-confessed chatterbox, Catriona is also highly sought after as an MC and host for various events, dazzling audiences of all sizes with clients such as Mitre 10 and Clarins.
